Alessandro Carrega is a Researcher at TNT-Lab-Lab, a joint initiative between the UniGe's DDITEN department and CNIT. His expertise lies in the intersection of networking, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, with a focus on innovative solutions for modern communication systems.
Dr. Carrega's research portfolio encompasses a wide range of cutting-edge areas, including energy-efficient networking, performance optimization techniques, NFV/SDN, leveraging technologies like OpenFlow, and the secure integration of AI/ML into cybersecurity frameworks. He is a strong advocate for software-defined infrastructure, actively exploring the potential of container orchestration systems like Kubernetes and cloud platforms such as OpenStack to enhance network agility and scalability.
Throughout his career, Dr. Carrega has been a driving force behind numerous successful research projects, contributing significantly to both national and international endeavors. He has been actively involved in several prominent European projects, including H2020 NEPHELE, HORSE, ASTRID, GUARD, ARCADIA, and INPUT, as well as FP7 IP ECONET, PRIN EFFICIENT, FIRB GreenNet, and FI-Core. His commitment to advancing the field is further evidenced by his active role as a reviewer for leading international journals and conferences within the IEEE and ACM communities.
Dr. Carrega's academic journey has been marked by consistent achievement. He earned his Ph.D. in Green Networking from the University of Genoa, following his Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Computer Engineering from the same institution. His dedication to research excellence was recognized in 2010 with the prestigious Best Paper Award at the 3rd International Workshop on GreenCom, co-located with IEEE GLOBECOM. In 2011, he further enriched his research experience as a Visiting Ph.D. Scholar at PSU, where he worked under the guidance of Prof. Suresh Singh and actively participated in the FINE2 Italy-USA collaboration project.
Dr. Carrega's research endeavors extend beyond academia, fostering strong collaborations with industry leaders. He has engaged in fruitful partnerships with prominent companies such as TIM, Broadcom, Nokia, Ericsson, and Huawei, as well as actively participating in industry forums like GeSI. These collaborations ensure that his research findings have a tangible impact on the evolving landscape of telecommunications and networking technologies.
